The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulates the various commercial and institutional uses of nuclear energy. These regulatory functions relate to both nuclear power plants and to other uses of nuclear materials including nuclear medicine programs at hospitals and academic activities at educational institutions. Learn more about the work of the NRC – including why it is the top ranked agency for employees under 40 in the Best Places to Work in Federal Government – during a special tour of its Operations Center. In addition to monitoring nuclear power plants and helping develop preventive measures, the Operations Center also coordinates with other federal agencies (including the Department of Homeland Security, the Intelligence Community, and the Department of Energy) in the event of an incident.
Directions:
The Headquarters is easily accessed by metro. From downtown Washington, DC, take the Red Line (toward Shady Grove) to the White Flint station. The NRC Headquarters is across the street (Marinelli Road). For other directions, please visit the NRC homepage.
